معرفی
Dr Michaela Yuen is an Adjunct Lecturer at the University of Sydney’s Sydney Medical School, affiliated with the Faculty of Medicine and Health and the Kids Neuroscience Center at the Children’s Hospital at Westmead. Her research focuses on genetic and molecular mechanisms underlying congenital myopathies and neuromuscular disorders, particularly involving genes like LMOD3, ACTA1, and TPM2. She holds a PhD from Sydney Medical School and has conducted postdoctoral research at Amsterdam UMC.
Education:
- Bachelor/Master of Biomedicine & Biotechnology, University of Veterinary Medicine Vienna (2009)
- PhD in Neuromuscular Genetics, University of Sydney (2015)
Research Interests: Skeletal muscle contraction mechanisms, genetic diagnosis of neuromuscular diseases, and translation of research findings into clinical care. She employs techniques like bioinformatics, tissue culture models, and molecular biology to study pathomechanisms.
Recent Research Trends: Her articles emphasize genomic medicine innovations, splice-site variant analysis, and protein dysfunction in diseases. Key themes include LMOD2’s role in muscle contraction, KBTBD13’s actin-binding function, and ACTA1-related myopathy mechanisms.
Awards: Includes NHMRC CJ Martin Fellowship, Dean’s Prize for Research Publications, and multiple travel/conference grants.
Grants & Projects:
- 2022: MRFF-funded collaboration for muscle disease diagnosis and treatment
- 2017: NHMRC Early Career Fellowship for LMOD3 studies
Labs/Teams: Leads research at the Kids Neuroscience Center, collaborating with clinicians and geneticists to advance genomic medicine for pediatric neuromuscular disorders.
