Michaela Köttig

Prof. Dr. Michaela Köttig is a Professor for Fundamentals of Conversation, Communication, and Conflict Management at Frankfurt University of Applied Sciences (Faculty 4: Social Work and Health). She leads the Master of Research and Social Work (M.A.) program and is Spokeswoman of the Competence Centre for Social Intervention Research. Her research focuses on reconstructive social work, dialogical biography work, right-wing extremism prevention, and gender-sensitive approaches in social work. She has held visiting professorships at the University of New South Wales (Australia) and PUCRS (Brazil).

Education: PhD in Social Sciences (2003, University of Göttingen) with a dissertation on right-wing extremist girls and young women. Masters in Sociology and Political Science (1995, University of Kassel). Professional career includes roles as Research Assistant at the University of Cologne and Göttingen, and social work experience in youth welfare and migration contexts.

Research Interests: Interactions in multicultural settings, qualitative research methods, biographical research, radicalisation dynamics, gender studies, and social work interventions targeting right-wing extremism. She has conducted evaluations of projects like 'Lola für Lulu' and contributed to national and international conferences on radicalisation prevention.

Grants & Projects: Evaluated the 'Lola für Lulu' project (2010–2015), co-organized the Hamburg 2001 conference on 'Women in Right-Wing Extremism', and collaborated on biographical research projects in Cuba and Germany. Has been a member of the German Society for Social Work since 2014 and part of the European Radicalisation Awareness Network (RAN) since 2016.

Labs/Teams: Active in the Competence Centre for Social Intervention Research, focusing on methodological and theoretical advancements in intervention research. Leads teaching and research initiatives in Frankfurt UAS, including modules on qualitative research and right-wing extremism prevention.
