Michael Young

Michael Young is a Part-Time Lecturer in the Department of English at the University of Pittsburgh, affiliated with the Kenneth P. Dietrich School of Arts & Sciences. He holds a Ph.D. in Writing and Literature from the University of Cincinnati, alongside degrees from Kansas State University (Masters) and Duquesne University (Bachelors).

Research Interests: Dr. Young’s work spans Writing Pedagogy, Shakespeare Studies, American and Canadian Literature, Media Analysis (Cinema/Television), and interdisciplinary studies in History and Sociology. He is a prolific scholar with over 90 conference presentations, including at CCCC, NCTE, NEMLA, and MMLA. His creative non-fiction, poetry, and short stories have been published widely in peer-reviewed journals and anthologies, including contributions to the MLA Approaches to Teaching series.

• Government of Canada Faculty Enrichment Grant (Canadian Literature curricular design)

Advising & Administrative Roles: He has served as Director of Academic Assessment, Chair of the Curriculum Committee, and member of the President’s Cabinet at prior institutions. His grants include support from the University of Nebraska-Lincoln Teaching Council and the U.S. Department of Education for curriculum internationalization projects.

Collaborations: Worked with Yale’s Maynard Mack on Everybody’s Shakespeare, and contributed to curriculum redesign for nonprofits through consulting roles.
