Michael Windover is an Associate Professor and Assistant Director in the School for Studies in Art and Culture at Carleton University. He holds a Ph.D. from the University of British Columbia and cross-appointments in the Institute for Comparative Studies in Literature, Art and Culture, and the School of Industrial Design. As an adjunct curator at Ingenium: Canada’s Museums of Science and Innovation, he bridges academic and public cultural sectors.
Windover’s research focuses on modern architecture, design history, and material culture, with a particular emphasis on Art Deco, radio’s visual culture, and interiors. His work spans Canada, the U.S., and India, addressing themes like public culture, mobility, and the socio-political dimensions of design. He has led interdisciplinary projects, such as the SSHRC-funded 'Designing Domestic Dining,' exploring food, technology, and space with Algonquin College and Ingenium.
His publications include Art Deco: A Mode of Mobility (2012) and co-editing The Routledge Companion to Art Deco (2019). He has received awards for his teaching, including a 2019 Teaching Achievement Award for the Virtual Museum of Architecture in Ottawa project.
Award-winning projects include the exhibition Seeing, Selling, and Situating Radio in Canada (2017), which explored radio’s cultural impact. His work integrates archival research, spatial analysis, and interdisciplinary collaboration, contributing to both scholarly and public understandings of design history.
