Michael Wakeford is an Associate Professor of History and Humanities in the Division of Liberal Arts at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts. His teaching focuses on United States cultural and intellectual history, with particular emphasis on the histories of the arts in American life, urban history, and public history. He holds a Ph.D. in History from the University of Chicago, an M.A. in History from Indiana University at Bloomington, and a B.A. in History from the University of North Carolina at Chapel Hill.

He has been recognized with the UNCSA Excellence in Teaching Award (2021) and collaborates extensively with organizations such as the Society for United States Intellectual History, Kaleideum, and Creative Corridors Coalition. His projects include co-curating the exhibit 'This School, This City: Celebrating 50 Years of UNC School of the Arts in Winston-Salem.'
