معرفی
Dr. Michael V. Graves is an Associate Professor in the Department of Biological Sciences at the University of Massachusetts Lowell's Kennedy College of Sciences, where he has served since the late 1990s. A virologist and molecular biologist, his research focuses on chlorella viruses—large DNA viruses infecting green algae—and their unique biochemical pathways.
- Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics & Virology (1992), Oregon State University
- B.S. in Biology (1986), University of Nebraska, Lincoln
His research explores chlorella virus genomics, protein glycosylation mechanisms, and host-virus interactions. Key discoveries include viral-encoded enzymes for hyaluronan synthesis and novel pathways for protein glycosylation independent of host organelles.
Recent publications focus on viral genome annotations (2007-2011), plant virus epidemiology (2011), and neuroprotective nutritional mechanisms (2004-2006), reflecting interdisciplinary expertise spanning virology and neurobiochemistry.
- Teaching Appreciation Award (2008)
- Teaching Excellence Award (2005)
- Phi Beta Kappa (1986)
Dr. Graves has led grants from the NSF Microbial Genome Sequencing Program and the U.S. Department of Energy, and participated in the International Census of Marine Sciences. His work bridges fundamental virology and applied biotechnology through algae bioreactor research.
