Dr. Michael Todd Landis is an Assistant Professor of History in the Department of Social Sciences at South Carolina State University. He teaches courses on U.S. history, politics, and African-American studies. Landis joined SC State University in 2022 after teaching at institutions in Florida, Nevada, Connecticut, Texas, and New York. He serves on the Board of Trustees of the Saratoga County History Center and previously worked as a professional musician and music instructor.
- Education: BA (History & Political Science, Boston University, 2001), MA (History, Boston University, 2002), PhD (History, The George Washington University, 2011).
His research focuses on U.S. history, slavery, antebellum and Civil War-era politics, and public history. Landis authored the book Northern Men with Southern Loyalties (2014), examining the Democratic Party’s role in the sectional crisis. His courses include 'US History to 1877' and 'Police & Race in America.'
