معرفی
Professor Michael Theisen is affiliated with the Department of Immunology and Microbiology at the University of Copenhagen, where he leads research in malaria vaccine development. He is associated with multiple research teams including the GLURP team, CMP, and EPITOPE team. His work focuses on developing vaccines against Plasmodium falciparum, the parasite responsible for the most severe form of malaria.
Dr. Theisen's research interests span several critical areas in malaria immunology and vaccine development:
- Malaria transmission-blocking vaccines targeting antigens like Pfs48/45, Pfs230, and PfCSP
- Antibody responses to malaria antigens and their correlation with protection
- Clinical development of malaria vaccine candidates
- Antigen diversity and its implications for vaccine design
- Phage display technology for antibody development
- Malaria epidemiology in endemic regions like Burkina Faso and Ghana
His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on clinical translation of malaria vaccine candidates, with multiple phase 1 clinical trials conducted in malaria-endemic regions of Africa. The work spans from basic antigen characterization to human clinical trials evaluating safety, immunogenicity, and transmission-blocking activity.
Professor Theisen collaborates extensively with researchers across international boundaries, particularly with institutions in malaria-endemic countries in Africa. His laboratory is actively involved in both basic immunological research and applied vaccine development.
