Michael Teistler

Michael Teistler is Professor of Applied Computer Science / Media Informatics at Hochschule Flensburg, Department of Information and Communication. He specializes in Human-Computer Interaction, Virtual Reality, and Medical Visualization, with a focus on developing innovative educational tools for medical imaging.

His research interests include:

• Human-Computer Interaction in medical contexts
• Virtual and augmented reality applications for medical education
• Game-based learning systems for medical training
• Medical visualization and imaging techniques
• Ultrasound training methodologies

Professor Teistler leads the CIVU – Center for Interaction, Visualization and Usability, and the VR Skills Lab focused on Virtual Learning Environments in Medical Visualization. His work centers on developing and implementing virtual and game-based learning systems in medical imaging education, particularly through projects like SonoGame for ultrasound training.

His recent publications demonstrate a strong focus on applying game-based learning and virtual reality technologies to medical education, particularly in ultrasound imaging and radiological anatomy. The research shows consistent development of practical tools that bridge the gap between theoretical knowledge and hands-on medical skills training.

As a member of the central budget and planning committee (ZHP), Professor Teistler contributes to institutional decision-making while maintaining active research and teaching responsibilities. He also serves as academic advisor for the Interactive Media & Games program, connecting his research interests with student education.
