Michael T. Laub is the Salvador E. Luria Professor of Biology at MIT and an Investigator at the Howard Hughes Medical Institute. His research focuses on bacterial information processing, evolution of signaling pathways, and host-phage coevolution. He holds positions in the Department of Biology within the School of Science at MIT.
Education includes a BS in Molecular Biology from UC San Diego (1997) and a PhD from Stanford University (2002). His work combines genetics, biochemistry, and computational methods to study bacterial immunity against phages, protein interaction evolution, and molecular innovation driven by evolutionary pressures.
Research interests emphasize anti-phage defense systems, toxin-antitoxin mechanisms, and the coevolutionary dynamics between bacteria and phages. Key findings include discovery of novel defense systems via functional selections and mechanistic studies of immunity proteins.
