Michael T. Colatrella Jr. is set to become the Dean of the McGeorge School of Law at the University of the Pacific starting July 1, 2025. Currently serving as Professor of Law and the inaugural Tracy A. Eglet Chair in Alternative Dispute Resolution, he joined McGeorge in 2009 as an Assistant Professor. He held leadership roles as Associate Dean for Academic Affairs (2015–2019) and Interim Dean during the early pandemic period (2019–2023). His expertise spans alternative dispute resolution (ADR), including mediation and negotiation, and legal education reform. He co-authored the widely used textbook Mediation—Skills & Techniques and co-directs the Institute for Law Teaching and Learning. Colatrella advocates for student-centric legal education, co-developed McGeorge’s required first-year course The Legal Profession, and emphasizes support for first-generation students. He previously served as Director of Southern Methodist University’s Center for Dispute Resolution and practiced litigation at a top law firm. As a court-approved mediator in multiple states, he has mediated disputes across employment, commercial, and consumer law.
