معرفی
Professor Michael T. Burrows is a Marine Ecologist at the Scottish Association for Marine Science (SAMS), where he has been a faculty member since 2011 and previously served as Head of the Ecology Department (2009–2013). His research integrates individual organism ecology with population, community, and ecosystem-scale dynamics, focusing on rocky shores and sandy beaches. Key themes include climate change impacts on marine biodiversity, ecosystem structuring processes, and macroalgal contributions to carbon storage.
Education:
• Ph.D. in Marine Ecology (1986), University of Manchester & Marine Biological Association, Plymouth.
• B.Sc. (Hons) in Marine Biology (1982), University of Liverpool.
Research Interests:
Professor Burrows investigates marine population responses to climate change, coastal ecosystem processes, and kelp forest ecology. His work combines behavioral studies of individual organisms with large-scale biodiversity modeling to predict ecosystem shifts under environmental stressors like warming and ocean acidification.
Publication Trends:
His recent articles emphasize marine heatwaves, kelp forest resilience, climate-driven biodiversity turnover, and sustainable aquaculture. Research consistently links ocean warming to ecological disruptions, with a strong focus on conservation applications.
Projects & Grants:
Notable funded initiatives include:
• MERP (NERC, 2014–2017): Macroecology of ecosystem services.
• VELOCITY (Research Council of Norway, 2014–2017): Climate-biodiversity modeling.
• ECOWATT2050 (EPSRC, 2013–2017): Large-scale renewable energy impacts.
Student Advising:
He has supervised 14 PhD students, including current advisees Mairi MacArthur (geodiversity-biodiversity interactions) and Claudia Meneghesso (upwelling systems). Alumni work spans invasive species, renewable energy impacts, and Arctic ecology.
