Michael Snowden is a Senior Lecturer in the Department of Allied Health Professions, Sport and Exercise at the School of Human and Health Sciences, University of Huddersfield. He is also a member of the Centre for Applied Research in Health and has been with the university since 1997, contributing to module and course leadership in health-related disciplines.
His research interests are centered on social enterprise, entrepreneurship, mentorship, applied pedagogy, governance, and equality in education. His work aligns with several UN Sustainable Development Goals, particularly those related to quality education, decent work and economic growth, and reduced inequalities. He has published extensively on social enterprise in Ghana, India, and China, exploring its role in youth unemployment, sustainable development, and health policy.
His recent publications reflect a strong focus on social innovation, entrepreneurial education, and policy development, particularly in low- and middle-income countries. Themes include women's entrepreneurship, healthy ageing, pandemic response, and the role of higher education in fostering social enterprise. His work often involves interdisciplinary collaboration and qualitative methodologies.
Michael Snowden actively supervises PhD students and has contributed to numerous academic and public engagements, including invited talks, conference organization, and media contributions on social enterprise. He collaborates with researchers such as Jamie Halsall, Ernest Christian Winful, and Roopinder Oberoi.
