Michael Sinnwell is an Assistant Professor of Instruction in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Iowa. He previously served as a Visiting Assistant Professor at the university from 2020-2024 and worked as a Post Doctorate Research Associate at Pacific Northwest National Laboratory. He also holds a Research Core Specialist appointment in the Office of the Vice President of Research.
- B.A. in Chemistry (2011) from Luther College
- Ph.D. in Chemistry (2017) from the University of Iowa
His research focuses on engineering hierarchical porous materials for energy and environmental applications, including rare earth element extraction from aqueous solutions and noble gas separation technologies. Current work examines material design for resource recovery and environmental remediation.
