Michael Seigler is an Associate Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at the University of Kentucky and serves as Director of Undergraduate Studies for Aerospace Engineering. His research focuses on control theory, human-machine systems, and small-satellite attitude control. He holds a Ph.D., M.S., and B.S. in Mechanical Engineering from Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University and Clemson University, respectively.
Education:
- Ph.D., Mechanical Engineering, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
- M.S., Mechanical Engineering, Virginia Polytechnic Institute and State University
- B.S., Mechanical Engineering, Clemson University
Research Interests:
- Development of advanced control algorithms for satellite systems
- Human-in-the-loop control strategies for complex dynamic systems
- Electromagnetic actuation technologies for spacecraft formation flight
Recent work emphasizes the application of sinusoidal controls and decentralized architectures to address challenges in small-satellite attitude stabilization and multi-agent formation dynamics. His studies on human operator behavior under varying system conditions have contributed to understanding control task difficulty metrics.
Labs/Teams: Active participation in aerospace engineering research teams focused on satellite dynamics and control systems development.
