Michael Schuck

Michael Schuck, Ph.D., holds a joint appointment as Professor at Loyola University Chicago's School of Environmental Sustainability and Department of Theology. He is the Founding Director of the Joan and Bill Hank Center for the Catholic Intellectual Heritage and collaborates with the Vatican Dicastery for Promoting Human Development on the Laudato Sì Action Platform. His research bridges environmental justice, Roman Catholic social thought, and theological ethics.

Dr. Schuck earned his Ph.D. in Ethics and Society from the University of Chicago, along with Master’s degrees in Religious Studies and Political Science. His academic work includes seminal publications such as That They Be One: Social Teaching of the Papal Encyclicals, 1740-1989 and the online textbook Healing Earth. His research emphasizes global environmental justice movements, Indigenous studies, and the application of Catholic social teaching to contemporary issues.

His publications explore historical foundations of Catholic social thought, modern ecological ethics, and the intersection of religion with democracy and culture.
