Michael Rinn is a Professor of French Linguistics at Université de Brest, affiliated with the Heritage and Creation in Text and Image research laboratory (HCTI, EA 4249). His academic work spans rhetorical analysis, genocide studies, humanitarian communication, and African discourse studies.
Research interests focus on rhetorical analysis of hate speech, genocide testimonies, and humanitarian communication, particularly examining emotional manipulation in discourse, post-jihadist narratives in Francophone Africa, and digital radicalization. His methodology combines critical discourse analysis with multimodal approaches to dissect ideological emprise in political and humanitarian contexts.
Scientific contributions include analyzing the rhetoric of AIDS campaigns in Africa, hate propaganda on the internet, and narratives of terrorism. His publications reveal consistent engagement with how language constructs reality in crisis situations, from Rwandan genocide testimonies to contemporary jihadism.
Rinn actively participates in international conferences on genocide prevention, discourse analysis, and political communication, presenting at venues including the International Association of Genocide Scholars and specialized symposiums on rhetoric and radicalization. His work bridges theoretical linguistics with urgent humanitarian and political concerns.
