Michael Reinhardt

Dr. Michael Reinhardt is an Assistant Professor of Psychiatry at SUNY Downstate Health Sciences University, where he serves as Clinical Advisory Dean and holds multiple leadership roles including Director of the Geriatric Psychiatry Fellowship Program and Director of the Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease. He completed residency and fellowship training at SUNY Downstate and is board-certified in psychiatry and geriatric psychiatry.

Dr. Reinhardt’s research focuses on geriatric psychiatry, with emphasis on schizophrenia in older adults, Alzheimer’s disease, and biopsychosocial interventions. His work explores topics like health disparities, telehealth innovations, pharmacogenetics, and frailty assessment in geriatric mental health. Recent publications address cognitive disorders, psychotic symptoms in later life, and healthcare applications of AI/machine learning.

His peer-reviewed articles and book chapters examine psychotic disorders in aging, cognitive impairments, and mental health policy. Posters presented at the American Association for Geriatric Psychiatry Annual Meeting highlight oral health, telehealth, and sensory-cognitive interactions in neurocognitive disorders.

Labs and Teams: Directs SUNY Downstate’s Brooklyn Initiative to Develop Geriatric Education and Center of Excellence for Alzheimer’s Disease. Co-leads educational programs with HRSA funding and collaborates with the Canadian Academy of Geriatric Psychiatry.
