Michael R. Hoffmann

Michael R. Hoffmann is the John S. and Sherry Chen Professor of Environmental Science, Emeritus at Caltech. His research spans environmental chemistry, semiconductor photocatalysis, electrochemistry, and water treatment technologies. His group develops advanced oxidation processes for pollution control and solar fuels production.

Professor Hoffmann has received the Alexander von Humboldt Prize, American Chemical Society Award, and been elected to both the US and Chinese National Academies of Engineering. He has supervised over 50 PhD students and postdoctoral scholars during his career and published more than 300 peer-reviewed papers.
