Michael Pitts

Michael Pitts is an Associate Professor in the Department of Psychology at Reed College, a position he has held since August 2011. His research focuses on the neural and cognitive mechanisms underlying conscious awareness, leveraging high-density EEG/ERP techniques and non-linear dynamical analyses.

Research Interests include:

• Neurophysiological signatures of conscious perception
• Reproducibility and open-science practices in psychology
• Methodological innovations in electrophysiological data analysis
• Collaborative adversarial approaches to theory testing

Dr. Pitts is actively involved in large-scale collaborative projects such as the Reproducibility Project: Psychology and Cogitate, an adversarial collaboration designed to test Global Neuronal Workspace (GNW) versus Integrated Information Theory (IIT). These initiatives emphasize preregistration, open data, and transparent methodologies to advance cumulative psychological science.
