Michael Opperman is an Associate Professor of Applied Mathematics at Champlain College, part of the Division of Information Technology & Sciences. He holds a BS in Mathematics from Wagner College and a PhD in Mathematics from Clarkson University. His career includes roles as an instructor at Clarkson University, student teacher at Essex High School, and adjunct faculty member at Champlain College. Currently, he teaches courses ranging from introductory statistics to 3D mathematics for game programming, emphasizing practical applications of mathematics in real-world contexts.
Dr. Opperman is deeply committed to improving classroom pedagogy, actively participating in Champlain College's Scholarship of Teaching and Learning (SotL) group. He has attended pedagogy workshops and focuses on making complex statistical concepts accessible to all learners. His dedication to diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) is evident through his role as chair of the Diversity, Inclusion, and Gender in Information, Technology, and Sciences (DIGITS) committee and participation in Digital Humanities Summer Institutes (DHSI).
