Michael Miyawaki

Michael Miyawaki is an Associate Professor of Sociology and Anthropology at the College of Wooster. He joined the faculty in 2020 after serving as an Assistant Professor at Hendrix College (2015-2020). His research explores identity formation, racial classification systems, and social inequality, with a focus on Latinos and multiracial populations in the United States.

His current project investigates the racial identities of 'part-Latinos' through interview-based research and demographic analysis. Miyawaki teaches courses including Introduction to Sociology and Racial and Ethnic Groups in American Society. He founded the M&M Project, a campus initiative addressing microaggressions through photography.

Professional affiliations include the American Sociological Association and Critical Mixed Race Studies Association.
