Professor Michael Lowe is the Head of the Department of Mechanical Engineering at Imperial College London. He holds a BSc from the University of Edinburgh (1979), followed by an MSc (1987) and PhD (1993) in Mechanical Engineering from Imperial College. His research focuses on Non Destructive Testing (NDT), including structure-guided ultrasound, wave theory, and materials characterization. He is also affiliated with the Applied Mechanics and Non-Destructive Evaluation groups.

Awards: Elected Fellow of the Royal Academy of Engineering in 2014, recognizing his contributions to engineering research and innovation.
Advising & Grants: As Head of Department, he oversees academic and research strategy. He co-founded Guided Ultrasonics Ltd, a spin-out company commercializing NDT technologies, and directs the RCNDE, a joint industry-university research hub.
