Michael Levin is a Professor in the Clinical/Counseling Psychology PhD specialization at Utah State University, co-directing the USU ACT Research Group. His work spans over 40 clinical trials and 150+ publications focused on evidence-based mental health interventions.
His educational background includes:
- PhD in Clinical Psychology from University of Nevada, Reno (mentor: Dr. Steven C. Hayes)
- Predoctoral internship at Brown University Clinical Psychology Training Consortium
Levin pioneers self-guided ACT delivery through digital platforms (apps, websites, books) targeting anxiety disorders, depression, OCD, weight stigma, and chronic health conditions. His research produced ACT Guide—a free public mental health program with 4,000+ users—and established process-based therapy frameworks applicable across diverse populations including college students and chronic illness patients.
Securing over $6 million in NIH and foundation grants, Levin mentors 12 current graduate students with 5 alumni securing faculty positions. His USU ACT Research Group conducts 70+ clinical trials and maintains international collaborations across Australia, Iran, China, Uganda, Brazil, and Europe.
The group ranks as the 1st and 3rd most productive ACT research entities globally (Li et al., 2022; Lim et al., 2024; Wang et al., 2025), with plans to admit new graduate students for Fall 2026.
