Roukes' research bridges Nanoscience, Neuroscience, and Proteomics, focusing on developing advanced NEMS (Nanoelectromechanical Systems) for single-molecule analysis, neurophysiological measurement, and quantum physics exploration. His work emphasizes very-large-scale integration of nanodevices for commercializable applications in biomedical research.
Recent publications highlight his group's interdisciplinary innovations in NEMS arrays for mass spectrometry, optical phased arrays for neural imaging, and thermodynamic computing using nanoscale fluctuations. These works span quantum sensing, single-cell proteomics, and nonlinear dynamics, reflecting his commitment to pushing nanotechnology's frontiers in both fundamental physics and life sciences.
Roukes has advised notable researchers including Caryn Bullard (Physics Ph.D., 2016) and Peter Hung (Applied Physics Ph.D., 2016). His group's patents and collaborations with institutions like Columbia University and APIX Analytics demonstrate his translational impact.
