Michael L. Maynard is an Associate Professor in the Advertising and Public Relations department at the Lew Klein College of Media and Communication, Temple University. He holds a PhD in Communications from Rutgers University, a Master’s in Dramatic Arts from the University of Iowa, and a BA in English Literature from the University of Texas at Austin. His career spans academic research, teaching, and industry experience in advertising.

Maynard’s research focuses on Cross-Cultural Advertising, Direct Marketing, and Media Semiotics. He has published over 40 research articles and presented at conferences like the American Academy of Advertising and AEJMC. His work explores cultural nuances in Japanese and U.S. advertising, the role of internships in education, and the ethics of political advertising.
His notable awards include multiple Temple University Merit Awards for teaching, research, and service. He has taught undergraduate courses such as Introduction to Advertising, Copywriting, and Morality, Law, and Advertising. Maynard also contributed to the development of Temple’s Advertising & Globalization Gen Ed course and partnered with the Philadelphia History Museum on experiential learning projects.
