Michael Keane

Michael Keane is the Wm. Polk Carey Distinguished Professor of Economics at Johns Hopkins University’s Carey Business School. He holds a PhD from Brown University and a BS from MIT. His career includes professorships at Oxford, Yale, NYU, and the University of Minnesota, among others. Keane is renowned for his contributions to choice modeling and life-cycle analysis, with over 100 publications in top journals. His 1994 GHK algorithm and foundational papers in consumer learning (1996) and human capital (1997) are landmark contributions. He specializes in econometrics, labor economics, health economics, and consumer behavior, advising numerous students and mentoring postdocs. Awards include the John D.C. Little Award, Fellow of the Econometric Society, and Australian Laureate Fellow. His research spans policy areas like health insurance, taxation, and education, with grants from NIH and ARC. Keane teaches customer analytics and collaborates with institutions like the Institute for Fiscal Studies and the Australian Treasury.
