Michael John Gorman

Michael John Gorman is the Mark R. Epstein Director of the MIT Museum and Professor of the Practice of Science, Technology, and Society at MIT. He previously served as Founding Director of BIOTOPIA Naturkundemuseum Bayern in Munich and University Professor (Chair) in Life Sciences in Society at Ludwig-Maximilians-University Munich. He also held a courtesy professorship in Literature and Linguistics at LMU Munich.

His career includes founding Science Gallery Dublin and Science Gallery International, which expanded globally to locations like London, Melbourne, and Berlin. He has held postdoctoral fellowships at Harvard University, Stanford University, and MIT. His research focuses on the intersections of science, art, and society, with notable publications in Nature, Science, and Leonardo.

He currently serves on the Rachel Carson Center Board, Max Planck Institute for Biological Intelligence, and Munich Science Communication Lab Executive Board, while advising the European Commission’s Joint Research Centre.
