Dr. Michael J.D. Rushton is a Senior Lecturer at Bangor University's Nuclear Futures Institute since November 2017. Previously, he worked at Imperial College London's Centre for Nuclear Engineering. His research focuses on atomic-scale simulations of energy materials, particularly nuclear fuels and wasteforms, with emphasis on actinide oxides and fission gas bubble interactions. He also explores battery and fuel cell materials, using methods like molecular dynamics and Monte Carlo simulations. Notably, he contributed to the UK-Japan collaborative project on radiolytic heating predictions and the NFIR fuels program for EPRI.
He co-founded Bangor's BWR Hub and Network and serves on its steering group. Teaching-wise, he was nominated for a student choice award at Imperial for his crystallography course. He is actively involved in the Materials Chemistry Committee of the Institute of Materials, Minerals and Mining, promoting phase equilibria research.
