Michael J. LaMonte

Michael J. LaMonte is a Research Professor in the Department of Epidemiology and Environmental Health at the University at Buffalo's School of Public Health and Health Professions. He serves as Director of Graduate Studies for MS and PhD programs. His research focuses on physical activity measurement, functional capacity, and their roles in cardiovascular disease epidemiology and healthy aging. Previously, he held roles including Director of Epidemiologic Research at the Cooper Institute and Assistant Professor positions in Cardiology and Exercise Science.

Key Findings: Recent studies highlight associations between accelerometer-measured physical activity, sedentary behavior, and mortality in cancer survivors, as well as the roles of IL-6 signaling and clonal hematopoiesis in cardiovascular outcomes. His research also explores how lifestyle factors like PPI use and dietary patterns influence hypertension and CVD risk.
