Michael J. Baker is a CNRS Research Director at Télécom Paris, affiliated with the Interdisciplinary Institute of Innovation (i3) within the Economic and Social Sciences department. His research focuses on dialogue-driven knowledge emergence, particularly in computer-supported collaborative learning (CSCL), argumentation, and educational technology. He co-directs the i3 laboratory’s research axis on innovation democratization and has collaborated internationally, including visiting professorships at Stockholm/KTH and Neuchâtel.
Education: PhD in Cognitive Sciences (1990), Habilitation in Psychology (2004) from Université Nancy 2. Key roles include editorial board memberships for journals like International Journal of Computer-Supported Collaborative Learning and Frontline Learning Research.
Research explores interactive knowledge co-creation in digital spaces, including Wikipedia studies, affective learning, and collaborative design. Current projects include DIALLS (EU-funded), SocialTouch (ANR), and TEEC (French-Quebec collaboration). Supervises doctoral theses on topics like social sensitivity in CSCL and collaborative creativity.
