Dr. Michael Huo is a Clinical Professor of Orthopaedic Surgery at UT Southwestern Medical Center, where he has served for over 12 years. He specializes in total hip and knee replacement surgeries, with extensive experience in revision surgeries. Prior to UT Southwestern, he held faculty positions at Georgetown University, Yale University, Johns Hopkins University, Baylor College of Medicine, and the University of Kansas.
Dr. Huo’s education includes medical school at George Washington University, residency in orthopedic surgery at Yale University, and a fellowship in joint replacement surgery at The Hospital for Special Surgery (Cornell Medical College). His clinical practice since 1990 emphasizes contemporary surgical techniques, pain management, and rehabilitation to ensure optimal patient outcomes.
Research and teaching form a core part of his work, with over 120 journal articles, 20 book chapters, and international lectures. Collaborating with Dr. Kenneth Estrera and a multidisciplinary team—including nurses, therapists, and specialists from anesthesia and internal medicine—he leads the Joint Replacement Service at University Hospitals and Clinics. This team ensures comprehensive care across pre-surgery, peri-operative, and post-operative phases.
Dr. Huo and Dr. Estrera remain active in research to advance clinical practices and technologies, prioritizing patient safety and efficacy in surgical and rehabilitative approaches.
