Michael Hinchey is the Director of Lero-the Irish Software Engineering Research Centre and holds the title of Professor of Software Engineering at the University of Limerick, Ireland. He has maintained significant roles at NASA Goddard Space Flight Center as an Expert Consultant since 2006. His prior positions include Director of the NASA Software Engineering Laboratory, Professor of Software Engineering at Loyola University, and leadership roles at the Software Verification Research Centre in Australia and the University of Nebraska-Omaha. He has contributed extensively to software engineering through 22 US patents, over 200 publications, and 15+ authored or edited books.

- PhD in Computer Science from University of Cambridge
His research focuses on formal methods, software verification, autonomous systems, and self-managing software architectures. He has pioneered advancements in software engineering assurance and dynamic product lines, with applications in aerospace and critical systems.
Hinchey has received multiple NASA honors, including the 2012 NASA Honor Award and the 2009 Kerley Award for Innovation. He is recognized as a Fellow in several prestigious institutions, including the British Computer Society and the Irish Computer Society.
