Michael G. Hanchard is the Gustave C. Kuemmerle Professor of Africana Studies at the University of Pennsylvania, directing the Marginalized Populations project. His research bridges comparative politics and political theory, focusing on nationalism, racism, xenophobia, citizenship, and social movements. He holds a Ph.D. in Politics from Princeton University (1991), an M.A. from The New School (1985), and an A.B. from Tufts University (1981).
