Michael H. Whitworth is a Professor of Modern Literature and Culture and Tutorial Fellow at Merton College, University of Oxford. His affiliations include the English Faculty, where he teaches modernist literature, and roles as editor of the *Woolf Studies Annual* and former editor of the *Review of English Studies*. He holds a D.Phil. from Oxford and previously taught at the University of Wales, Bangor.
His research focuses on intersections of literature and science, modernism, and Virginia Woolf. Notable works include *Virginia Woolf* (2005) and an edition of Woolf's *Night and Day* (2018). Current projects explore science, poetry, and specialization in early 20th-century modernism, particularly among poets like Auden and Loy. He has also written on quantum mechanics and modernist epic.
Whitworth has received a Leverhulme Research Fellowship (2005-2007) and co-founded the British Society for Literature and Science. His advising spans modernist studies, literature and science, and book history. He mentors doctoral students on topics from Woolf's Hogarth Press to posthumanist poetry.
His work extends to publishing history, including a descriptive bibliography of Herbert Read and contributions to modernist periodical studies. He regularly teaches M.St. courses on literature and science and supervises advanced research across modernist literature.
