Michael Gleeson is a Lecturer in the Department of Computing at South East Technological University (SETU Carlow). He holds a BSc (Hons) in Computing from Technological University of the Shannon, an MSc in Computer Science from Technological University Dublin, and a Postgraduate Diploma in Third Level Teaching and Learning. He is currently a PhD candidate in Technology Enhanced Learning at Lancaster University. His research focuses on Generative AI in computer science education, pedagogical practices within cultural-historical contexts, and cybersecurity education through Capture the Flag (CTF) events.
Professionally, he has extensive certifications in systems administration (Cisco, VMWare, Red Hat, Microsoft) and teaches courses like Operating Systems, Secure Systems Administration, and Big Data Infrastructure. He actively promotes open-source technologies and CTF competitions as educational tools. From 2020–2023, he served as an External Examiner at Dundalk Institute of Technology.
His articles emphasize the integration of emerging technologies in education, cybersecurity pedagogy, and student engagement through competitive learning environments. His work bridges technical practices with sociocultural dimensions of education, particularly in Irish technological universities.
