Michael Gibbs Hill is the Vera Barkley Professor of Modern Languages & Literatures at William & Mary, specializing in Chinese Studies. His research focuses on the literary and intellectual history of China during the 19th and 20th centuries, the history of translation, and cross-cultural exchanges between China and the Middle East. Prior to his current role, he served as director of the Center for Asian Studies at the University of South Carolina's Walker Institute of International and Area Studies.
As a scholar and translator, Prof. Hill contributes regularly to his field through academic and literary work. He maintains a personal website at mghill.net and is affiliated with the Chinese Studies faculty at William & Mary's College of Arts & Sciences.
