Michael Georgiopoulos is a Professor in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering at the University of Central Florida's College of Engineering and Computer Science. He received his Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering from the University of Connecticut in 1986 and serves as Dean of the College.
His research focuses on machine learning paradigms including neural networks, decision trees, kernel methods, and swarm intelligence. He has led multiple NSF-funded projects investigating educational pathways in computing and optimizing machine learning algorithms.
Recent publications examine computing identity development among underrepresented students, educational interventions in STEM, and robust machine learning techniques for corrupted data. His work demonstrates consistent interest in both technical machine learning advances and educational applications.
Georgiopoulos has received numerous awards including the UCF Pegasus Award, Undergraduate Student Mentor of the Year, and multiple teaching excellence awards. He currently directs the Machine Learning Laboratory (ML²) where he mentors graduate students.
