Michael Frawley is a Senior Lecturer in History and Dean of Student Success at the University of Texas Permian Basin (UTPB). He holds a Bachelor of Arts in History and Political Science from Pennsylvania State University and a Master of Arts in Social Science from Edinboro University of Pennsylvania. His PhD in History from Louisiana State University was completed in 2014.

Dr. Frawley’s research focuses on the economic history of the American South during the Antebellum and Civil War eras, examining industrial practices and penitentiary systems. His recent work includes the book More than Met the Eye: Industry in the Antebellum Gulf South (2019) and contributions to digital educational tools. He serves as book review editor for Louisiana History and teaches courses on U.S. history, World Civilization, Slavery in America, and World War I.
Dr. Frawley’s publications highlight interdisciplinary approaches to the Antebellum South’s industrial economy and the integration of technology in historical education. His current projects explore industrialization on the eve of the Civil War and the role of penitentiaries as industrial hubs.
As Dean of Student Success, he contributes to academic administration while maintaining an active teaching role. He resides in Odessa, Texas, with his wife Melissa and two cats, Brandy and Bailey.
