Dr. Michael Figuccio is an Associate Professor and Chair of Psychology at Farmingdale State College. He holds a PhD in Psychology (Brain, Behavior, & Cognition) from Boston University (2016), alongside MA and dual BS degrees in Psychology and Human Physiology (2011–2012). He also earned a Higher Education Leadership & Administration Graduate Certificate from the University of Massachusetts Amherst in 2021.
His research focuses on early language and reading development, cognitive processes in children, and innovative pedagogical strategies such as service-learning and e-learning. He teaches courses ranging from introductory psychology to specialized topics like Atypical Development and Applied Psychology Senior Projects.
Dr. Figuccio’s recent publications (2014–2021) span neuroscience-based studies of language development, educational effectiveness of service-learning, and simulation-based learning in aviation training. His work bridges developmental psychology with practical teaching methods, emphasizing student engagement and evidence-based practices.
- Awards: SUNY Effective Online Pedagogy Award (2020), Open SUNY Teaching Ambassador (2020), and CTLT Innovative Pedagogy Award (2020).
He mentors students through courses like Mentoring Youth and oversees senior projects, fostering applied psychological research. His work reflects a commitment to both academic rigor and real-world educational impact.
