Michael Epis is a Researcher and UWA Biorepository Manager affiliated with the School of Biomedical Sciences at the University of Western Australia. He holds a BSc (Hons) in Biotechnology from Murdoch University (2001) and has extensive experience in RNA Biology, microRNA research, and prostate cancer studies. Since 2018, he has managed the WA DNA Bank, supporting 16 research groups in Western Australia with nucleic acid services, bio banking, and specimen storage. During the pandemic, he contributed to the CRR Bio Bank at Fiona Stanley Hospital, managing COVID-19 patient specimens. In 2022, he earned the Qualification in Biorepository Science (QBRS) from ASCP and ISBER.
His research focuses on microRNA regulation in cancer (e.g., prostate, hepatocellular), gene expression mechanisms, and translational applications. Notable projects include investigating miR-642a-5p’s tumor suppressor role and miR-7’s anti-metastatic effects. His work aligns with UN SDGs related to health and innovation.
Collaborations span cancer biology, biobanking, and drug resistance studies. His articles (26+ peer-reviewed) explore topics like microRNA delivery systems, ETS1 signaling, and biomarker discovery. He actively contributes to the Harry Perkins Institute of Medical Research and maintains international certification in biorepository management.
