Michael E. Stanfield is a Professor at the University of San Francisco, specializing in the social and cultural history of modern Latin America. His work focuses on topics such as slavery, race, and the politics of popular music in the Southern Cone. He holds a PhD in History from the University of New Mexico (1992), an MA from San Diego State University (1984), and a BA from UC Berkeley (1979).
