Associate Professor Michael Djordjevic is affiliated with the Research School of Biology at the Australian National University (ANU), where he leads research initiatives in plant biology, sustainable biofuel production, and plant-microbe symbiosis. His work focuses on lipid biosynthesis pathways in Chlamydomonas reinhardtii and CEP peptide signaling in legumes, particularly their roles in nitrogen regulation and root development.
He holds a BSc (Honours) from the University of Queensland and a PhD from ANU. As a Chief Investigator and Node Leader in the ARC Centre of Excellence for Integrative Legume Research (CILR), he coordinates interdisciplinary projects to advance understanding of plant nutrient signaling and symbiotic interactions.
Key research areas include:
- CEP peptide signaling in root architecture and nodulation
- Biofuel production via algal lipid pathways
- Plant immune responses and nitrogen stress
His research has been supported by prestigious fellowships, including the Australian National Research Fellowship (1984) and the Australian Wool Board Trust Fund Postdoctoral Fellowship (1985). Recent work emphasizes translational applications of CEP signaling to improve crop resilience and sustainable agriculture.
