معرفی
Professor Michael Damzen is a Professor of Experimental Laser Physics at Imperial College London, affiliated with the Faculty of Natural Sciences. He leads the Nonlinear Optics Group and previously headed the Photonics Group (2013–2023). His research focuses on high-power laser architectures, tunable diode-pumped systems, and applications in remote sensing, biophotonics, and quantum engineering.
Education: PhD in Laser Physics (Imperial College London, 1983), BSc (Hons) in Physics (Imperial College London, 1980).
Research Interests:
- Laser Technology: High-power Alexandrite lasers, wavelength tuning, UV generation, and Q-switching.
- Nonlinear Optics: Mode transformation, vortex lasers, and interferometric techniques.
- Applications: Space-based lidar for vegetation/atmosphere sensing, industrial photonics, and biomedical imaging.
Key Projects: Developed ESA-supported tunable-wavelength lasers for remote sensing and founded Midaz Lasers Ltd, a laser technology company acquired by a global leader in 2006. His work includes breakthroughs in diode-pumped Alexandrite lasers and compact, low-cost laser systems.
Affiliations: Agri Futures Lab, Network of Excellence in Air Quality, Photonics Group, Quantum Engineering, and Space Lab at Imperial College.
