Michael D. Stiber is a Professor in the Computing & Software Systems Division at the University of Washington Bothell (UWB) and Adjunct Faculty at the Paul G. Allen School of Computer Science & Engineering. He serves as Director of Cybersecurity Initiatives for UWB's School of STEM and Principal Investigator of the Intelligent Networks Laboratory, where he develops high-performance simulation frameworks for critical infrastructure and neuroscience research.
Dr. Stiber earned his Ph.D. in Computer Science from UCLA following a double major in Computer Science and Electrical Engineering at Washington University in St. Louis. His prior appointments include Assistant Professor at HKUST, Research Assistant Professor at UC Berkeley, and Visiting Associate Professor at the University of Florida.
His research integrates complex networks, high-performance simulation, and data management with applications in computational neuroscience (modeling biological neural networks), cybersecurity (emergency services communications systems), and artificial intelligence. Current projects focus on 911 system modeling and neural culture development using the Graphitti simulation framework.
Recognized as a Fulbright Scholar, Dr. Stiber has developed foundational courses across the computer science curriculum including neural networks, signal processing, and computational neuroscience. He has pioneered simulation tools like Graphitti for large-scale graph-based systems and Workbench for reproducible experiment tracking.

As a founding faculty member at UWB and near-founding faculty at HKUST, he has mentored students through classroom instruction and research supervision while developing graduate programs in cybersecurity. His leadership as Director of Cybersecurity Initiatives supports UW's National Center of Academic Excellence expansion.
He directs the Intelligent Networks Laboratory where his team applies computational modeling to neuroscience and critical infrastructure security, emphasizing reproducible research through their Workbench system for simulation code and data management.
