Michael Colvin is Professor of English and World Literatures and Professor of Communication & Media Arts in the Department of Writing, Literature, and Language at Manhattanville College. His academic work bridges literary studies and media with a strong focus on Iberian and Latin American cultural production.
His research interests center on twentieth-century Latin American literature and Portuguese film, literature, and culture. He has authored three major scholarly books exploring the intersections of urban history, fado music, and cinematic representation in Portugal and Latin America. His current project is a comprehensive history of Portuguese cinema, continuing his long-standing engagement with Lusophone cultural expression.
Dr. Colvin's teaching philosophy emphasizes experiential learning, particularly through cultural immersion. In his Hispanic Civilization course, he organizes visits to the Hispanic Society of America and El Museo del Barrio to provide students with direct engagement with Iberian and Latin American art and artifacts.
Michael Colvin holds a Ph.D. from Temple University and a B.A. from Stockton State College.
He maintains regular office hours on Mondays from 2:30–4:00 PM and Wednesdays from 1:00–2:30 PM, with additional availability by appointment. His office is located in Nugent Hall, Room 151A.
