Dr. Michael Caruana is an Honorary Senior Research Fellow at the Sydney School of Public Health, University of Sydney. He leads the Mathematical Modelling Stream within The Daffodil Centre, focusing on health systems simulation, model calibration, and stochastic analysis. His work integrates epidemiology, public health, and mathematical methods to address cancer prevention and population health challenges.
- PhD in Mathematics, University of Oxford
- B.Sc. (Hons) in Mathematics & Statistics, University of Malta
His research centers on mathematical modelling for cancer screening, treatment evaluation, and pandemic impact analysis. Key areas include HPV vaccine surveillance, smoking prevalence forecasting, and colorectal cancer projections. Recent publications highlight applications in cervical cancer elimination, prostate cancer policy, and lung cancer screening economics.
Dr. Caruana collaborates with international consortia such as the WHO Cervical Cancer Elimination Modelling Consortium and the CCGMC (COVID-19 and Cancer Global Modelling Consortium). He supervises postdoctoral researchers and contributes to grants in genomic health futures and preventive public health initiatives.
