Michael Cafarella is a Principal Research Scientist at MIT's Computer Science and Artificial Intelligence Laboratory (CSAIL). Previously, he held a professorship at the University of Michigan from 2010-2020, maintaining ongoing collaborations there. His primary affiliation is MIT, where he leads research in data systems within the Data Systems Group.
His research focuses on database systems, information extraction, and applying data-intensive methods to economics. He regularly publishes in database systems conferences and interdisciplinary venues spanning AI and economics.
