Professor Michael Burton is a distinguished academic at the University of New South Wales specializing in Astrophysics. His research focuses on star formation processes and the excitation of interstellar medium using advanced observational techniques.

His work extends to Antarctica where he organizes significant astronomical initiatives, including the first International Astronomical Union Symposium on Astrophysics from Antarctica held in Beijing in August 2012.
