Michael Burri is an Adjunct Professor in the Department of Film and Media Arts at Temple University's School of Theater, Film and Media Arts. He specializes in film history, cities and cinema, race and diversity, and Central European film. His research focuses on Austrian and Swiss film, cultural diplomacy, and the intersection of state and culture in Austria.
- Education: Ph.D. in Comparative Literature from the University of Pennsylvania
Dr. Burri has published articles in journals such as German Studies Review, Austrian History Yearbook, and New German Critique. He contributes review essays to Czech and American media including Lidové noviny, Dnes, and The Washington Post.
He currently serves as editor of the Journal of Austrian-American History and Vice President of the Austrian Studies Association. His current projects include co-editing After Vienna: Post-Imperial Salzburg as Austria's Future Kulturstadt (1919–1938) and completing a book on cultural diplomacy in Austria. He also completed a 2020 fellowship at the German Historical Institute.
